The
opening of the Panagbenga festivities on Feb.1 proved successful, with many of
the city’s residents joining either as parade participants or viewer.
Baguio
Flower Festival Foundation Inc. (BFFFI) president said that the crowd
participation was high, as shown along the parade routes where a lot came out
of their homes to accompany the elementary and high school children during the
parade. Elementary and high school classes were suspended to give way to the
opening activities.
The
opening,Bautista said, is a chance for
the locals to have fun because there are still very few touristswho come for the opening day.
The
good weather, the mayor said, accounts for 50 percent of thesuccess of the opening day. They hope to have
the same on the 27th and 28th, time for the street
dancing and float parades.
“If
the weather us on our side, we will not have problems. We should be thankful
for all the blessings that we have received like the good environment, the
people, and the flowers. Without these, we cannot call this a flower festival,”
Bautista said.
